History of Java

Java is a combination of the unique functions and innovative class libraries which gives you much more functionality than any other language in this world. Java was created by Dr.James Gosling,Patrick Naughton,Chris Warth,Ed Frank and Mike Sheridan at Sun Microsystems in 1991.It was about 18 months time in which the first functional version could be developed. This language was initially called as "oak" because of the presence of an oak tree outside the office window of Dr.Gosling. Dr.Gosling is popularly known as "Father of Java" for his work in the development of Java.Later on this language called as "oak" was renamed as "Java" in 1995.

The original motive behind the development of Java was to develop a platform independent language which could be used to create software that could be embedded inside the various consumer electronic devices. The development team at Sun Microsystems wanted to develop a portable language which could be used to write a program that could run on all CPU's under different envirnoments.

By that time world wide web had begun to grow in leaps and bounds and that gave rise to the need for developing programs which are portable and which could run on all types of computers connected to the Internet.Java could produce portable programs which could run very well on the internet and that drastically shifted java's field towards Internet and that led Java to become the language of the Internet.

Java derives much of its character from C and C++.Java was tested and it came to be known as a language made for "programming by programmers".Although it is true that java is not the enhanced version of C++ but many of its characterstics were influenced by C++.
